This is following the receipt of the gazetted Nigeria Police Force Regulations during a formal handover ceremony at the Federal Ministry of Police Affairs in Abuja on Wednesday 15th April, 2026 where the Minister of Police Affairs, Dr. Ibrahim Gaidam, presented the document to the police leadership.

Speaking on the significance of the milestone, the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Placid, said the gazettement marks a critical transition from policy formulation to practical implementation within the Force.

“The newly gazetted regulations provide a comprehensive framework for professional, accountable, and rights-based policing in line with the provisions of the Police Act, 2020,” he stated.

Placid noted that the regulations are designed to bridge existing gaps between statutory provisions and operational realities, thereby enhancing the efficiency and integrity of policing across the country.

According to him, the Inspector-General of Police described the development as a major milestone in the ongoing police reform agenda.

“The IGP has assured that the Nigeria Police Force will ensure immediate and effective implementation of the regulations through force-wide dissemination, integration into training programmes, and strict enforcement across all Commands and Formations,” he said.

He added that accountability would remain the core of the implementation process.

“The IGP emphasised that adherence to these regulations will not be optional, as the Force is determined to entrench professionalism and restore public confidence,” Placid stated.

The police spokesperson further disclosed that the Minister of Police Affairs reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to strengthening institutional reforms within the Nigeria Police Force.

“The Minister highlighted that the gazettement represents a strategic step towards aligning policing operations with national security priorities and global best practices,” he said.

Placid also acknowledged the contributions of the Police Reform Secretariat, led by Professor Olu Ogunsakin, as well as the support of development partners, including the United Nations Development Programme.

“This collaborative effort reflects a shared commitment to building a more responsive, accountable, and citizen-focused police institution,” he noted.

The event was attended by key stakeholders, including representatives of the Police Service Commission, National Human Rights Commission, Nigeria Police Trust Fund, Federal Ministry of Justice, civil society organisations, and other partners.

Reaffirming the Force’s position, Placid said the Nigeria Police remains committed to the full implementation of the regulations.

“We are resolute in our commitment to strengthening professionalism, enhancing accountability, and building public trust through the effective enforcement of these regulations,” he added.
