The Governor of Zamfara State-Dauda Lawal has emerged as the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2027 election in the State.
This is sequel to the adoption of a consensus arrangement during the party’s primaries.
Party members and supporters across several wards endorsed Lawal as the APC flagbearer in an exercise designed to promote unity and avoid a divisive contest ahead of the next electoral cycle.
The consensus model, adopted by party stakeholders, reflected the APC’s strategy to strengthen internal cohesion as preparations intensify for the 2027 governorship election.
Speaking with journalists after the exercise, Lawal thanked party faithful for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to sustain developmental projects across the state.
“I am deeply honoured by the trust and support of our party faithful,” the governor said.
“We will not relent in our efforts to deliver meaningful development, enhance security, and create opportunities for all citizens of Zamfara State,” he added.
Lawal’s emergence is expected to reinforce the party’s political structure in the North-West as the APC positions itself for the next round of elections.
Political observers said the adoption of a consensus candidate highlights the party’s preference for stability and continuity over internal competition.
