Arsenal have been crowned Premier League champions for the first time in 22 years after Manchester City failed to secure victory against Bournemouth on Tuesday evening.
Manchester City needed a win to reduce Arsenal’s lead to two points and push the title race to the final day of the season.
However, Pep Guardiola’s side were held to a 1-1 draw after Bournemouth took the lead through Junior Kroupi in the 39th minute.
Although Erling Haaland scored a late equaliser in stoppage time, City could not find the winning goal required to keep their title hopes alive.
The result officially confirmed Arsenal as Premier League champions ahead of their final match of the campaign against Crystal Palace on Sunday, which will now serve as a celebration for the North London club and their supporters.
The title marks Arsenal’s 14th English league crown and their first since the historic 2003/2004 season when Arsène Wenger’s famous “Invincibles” side completed the league campaign unbeaten.
Arsenal now trail only Manchester United and Liverpool on the list of clubs with the most English league titles.
The triumph also ends years of frustration for the Gunners, who finished as runners-up in each of the last three Premier League seasons.
Under manager Mikel Arteta, Arsenal have emerged as one of Europe’s strongest teams this season, combining domestic consistency with an impressive run in continental competition.
The club will now shift attention to the UEFA Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain on May 30, where they will attempt to win Europe’s biggest club trophy for the first time in their history.
