Rite Foods Limited has reinforced its pledge to tackle plastic pollution and champion sustainability in Nigeria, as the World marks “World Clean-Up Day”.

The consumer goods company says its ongoing environmental campaigns are not only removing harmful waste but also empowering communities with tools for lasting change.

Rite Foods has consistently led corporate social responsibility initiatives aimed at safeguarding the environment. Among them is Rite on the Beach, a volunteer-driven programme that has cleared thousands of kilograms of plastic waste from Nigeria’s coastlines and marine environments. The company also participated in Plastic-Free July, a global movement that promotes responsible waste management.

According to Rite Foods, this year’s Plastic-Free July campaign in Lagos recovered more than 40 tonnes of plastic waste within a month. The initiative, carried out in collaboration with the Lagos State Government’s Office of Sustainable Development Goals, involved distributing reusable bags in malls and neighbourhoods, promoting waste sorting within the company, and educating residents on proper disposal methods.

Mr. Ekuma Eze, Head of Corporate Affairs and Sustainability at Rite Foods, said the company views the global observance as a call to action.

“World Clean-Up Day is a reminder of our shared duty to protect the environment we all depend on. At Rite Foods, we take this responsibility seriously and continue to innovate in ways that contribute to a cleaner Nigeria,” he said.

Adding to this, Mr. Dennis Aideloje, Corporate Affairs and Sustainability Manager, stressed the company’s focus on transforming waste into opportunities.

“As a Proudly Nigerian and Truly World-Class brand, we are committed to transforming waste into hope. Our initiatives go beyond clean-ups; they provide children in underserved communities with tools for learning and a brighter tomorrow”, he added.

The company has reiterated that Rite Foods’ sustainability agenda extends beyond environmental clean-ups. Through its EYEC framework – Education, Youth Empowerment, Environmental Stewardship, and Community Development – the company transforms recovered plastics into useful materials such as school bags. This approach, it says, demonstrates the power of circular economy practices in delivering both ecological and social benefits.

Recall that The company has pledged to strengthen partnerships with environmental groups, local communities, and volunteers to sustain its mission of driving collective action, with the aim of protecting natural ecosystems while inspiring Nigerians to embrace responsible waste management practices.
