This is as part of activities marking the 2026 World Environment Day.

The company engaged students, teachers, and community stakeholders at Opebi Senior Grammar School, Ikeja, Lagos, and Moslem Primary School, Ososa, Ogun State, through environmental education, tree planting, and recycling awareness programmes.

The Head of Corporate Affairs and Sustainability at Rite Foods Limited- Mr.  Ekuma Eze who spoke during the campaign said, environmental responsibility must begin with awareness and education, while noting  that climate change is a major global challenge that needs deliberate action from corporate organisations, communities and individuals.

“Environmental sustainability begins with awareness and responsibility. By catching them young and teaching them the importance of protecting the environment, they become ambassadors of positive change within their homes and communities,” Eze said.

He further explained that Rite Foods will continue to expand its sustainability efforts through initiatives such as: “the Waste-Is-Naira (W.I.N.) programme”, launched in partnership with RecyclePoints.

The programme allows residents to exchange used plastic bottles and beverage cans for cash while supporting responsible waste management and circular economy practices.

Similarly, the Health, Safety and Environment Manager at Rite Foods Limited-  Timilehin Ajibola who spoke at the event also, gave explanations on the connection between environmental protection, community development, and sustainable growth. He said:

“Our goal is to remain in business for the next century and beyond. Achieving that requires collective responsibility in protecting our environment through simple actions such as conserving water, disposing of waste properly, and planting trees”.

The Chief Executive Officer of Kazih Kits Limited, Dr Chinedu Azih explained that recycling provides solutions to environmental challenges while creating social and economic opportunities.

She noted that materials often considered waste can be transformed into useful items that support education and reduce pollution.

A key highlight of the Lagos engagement was a practical recycling session facilitated by Kazih Kits Limited, Rite Foods’ sustainability partner.

The session also introduced students to innovative ways of converting discarded materials into useful products while demonstrating the economic value of recycling.

The initiative themed: ‘Plant the Future’, also featured interactive sessions designed to help students understand the importance of protecting the environment and adopting eco-friendly habits.

The company said the initiative reflects its commitment to long-term climate action through education, innovation, and community participation.

The Rite Foods climate campaign is focused on promoting sustainable living, responsible waste management, water conservation, and environmental stewardship among young people.

The World Environment Day outreach reinforces Rite Foods Limited’s Corporate Social Responsibility framework covering Education, Youth Empowerment, Environmental Stewardship, and Community Development.
