“The Lagos State Police Command remains steadfast and unwavering in its commitment to safeguarding lives and property across Lagos State through proactive policing, intelligence-led operations, strategic crime prevention initiatives, and swift responses to emerging security threats”.
The Commissioner of Police Lagos Command, CP Tijani Fatai gave this assurance during his monthly press briefing held on the 23rd of June, 2026 at the Command’s Headquarters, Ikeja-Lagos.
Below is the excerpt of the press briefing.
In line with this mandate, the Command recorded notable operational successes within the month of June 2026, resulting in the arrest of criminal suspects involved in armed robbery, cultism, unlawful possession of firearms, vandalism, illegal immigration, conspiracy, and other violent crimes. These operations also led to the recovery of firearms, ammunition, stolen items, illicit substances, communication devices, and other incriminating exhibits.
These achievements further demonstrate the Command’s determination to sustain public safety and ensure that Lagos remains hostile to criminal elements.
Within the period under review, the Command arrested several suspects and recovered the following exhibits:
* Fourteen (14) Firearms recovered
* Four (4) live cartridges recovered
* One (1) MAN Diesel truck recovered
* Fifty-One (51) Mobile Phones
* Two (2) Vehicle Engine Control Units (ECU) commonly known as Brain Boxes
* One Operational Motorcycle
* One Truck loaded with Forty-Seven (47) sacks of Military Camouflage Uniforms
* Eighty (80) cartons of suspected illicit substances
* Vandalized electrical cables and other incriminating exhibits.
* One (1) small knife
Below is a summary of some of the major cases recorded during the period under review:
1. ARREST OF SUSPECTED CABLE VANDALS AND RECOVERY OF VANDALIZED ELECTRIC CABLES
Operatives of the command, while on routine patrol arrested two suspected cable vandals namely: Ikenegboge Godwin ‘m’, aged 23 years, and AondoakaJacob ‘m’, aged 23 years, suspects were intercepted while vandalizing electric cables on the Third Mainland Bridge. During the operation, vandalized electric cables were recovered from them. Suspects are currently in custody while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other fleeing members of the syndicate.
2. ARREST OF SUSPECTS FOR CONSPIRACY AND UNLAWFUL POSSESSION OF FIREARMS
Following an information received from an Estate in Ayetoro-Ijanikin, concerning a suspect stealing iron rods from a Catholic Church under construction, operatives swiftly mobilized to the scene and arrested one Emeka Okolie ‘m’, aged 32 years. Further investigation led to the arrest of David James ‘m’, aged 47 years and Uche Mordi ‘m’, aged 31 years, as well as the recovery of two double-barrel guns and six locally made single-barrel guns. Suspects and exhibits have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, for further investigation.
3. ARREST OF SUSPECT LINKED TO “ONE CHANCE” ROBBERY SYNDICATE
Operatives of the Command arrested a suspect linked to a notorious “One Chance” robbery syndicate operating within Lagos State. Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect had acquired a vehicle specifically for the purpose of carrying out robbery operations targeting unsuspecting commuters. During investigation, fifty-one different mobile phones suspected to be proceeds of previous criminal operations were recovered.
Efforts are ongoing to recover the vehicle used for the operation and arrest other members of the syndicate.
4. ARREST OF SUSPECT IN UNLAWFUL POSSESSION OF VEHICLE ENGINE CONTROL UNITS
Operatives of the command while on stop-and-search duty at Festac Town arrested one Ahmed Saheed ‘m’, aged 26 years. Upon search, two Vehicle Engine Control Units (ECU), popularly known as Brain Boxes and suspected to be stolen, were recovered in his possession. The suspect failed to give satisfactory account of ownership and lawful possession of the items. Investigation is ongoing to identify the source and possible accomplices.
5. ARREST OF SUSPECTS FOR UNLAWFUL POSSESSION OF FIREARMS
Operatives of the command while on crime prevention patrol along Ilupeju Bye-pass arrested two suspects namely: Jamiu Asanlaye ‘m’, aged 20 years, and Femi Adenuga ‘m’, aged 20 years.
Recovered from them were:
* One cut-to-size locally made pistol
* One English Brownie pistol
* Four live cartridges
The suspects claimed during preliminary investigation that one Segun ‘m’, currently at large, gave them the firearms. Efforts are ongoing to arrest the said suspect.
6. ARREST OF ARMED ROBBERY SUSPECT AND RECOVERY OF FIREARM
Following an investigation into an earlier robbery case transferred from Oke-Odo Division, commandoperatives arrested one Falalu Mustapha ‘m’, aged 20 years. Further investigation led to the recovery of one fabricated Beretta pistol and an operational motorcycle linked to a robbery gang operating around Ipaja axis. Suspect confessed to participating in a three-man robbery operation against members of the public. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend other fleeing members of the gang.
7. ARREST OF SUSPECTED FAKE SOLDIERS AND RECOVERY OF PUMP ACTION GUN
Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command acting on credible intelligence regarding the activities of some suspected fake military personnel swiftly mobilized to the scene. The intelligence revealed that the suspects were observed wearing military uniforms and were suspected to be in possession of a concealed pump action gun, two suspects identified as Mercy Odundo‘f’, aged 38 years, and Joshua Ayomide ‘m’, aged 31 years were arrested. During the operation, one pump action gun was recovered from the suspects. Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects are not officers of the Nigerian Army.
8. ARREST OF SUSPECTS AND RECOVERY OF MILITARY CAMOUFLAGE UNIFORMS, SUSPECTED ILLICIT SUBSTANCES
Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command attached to the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, acting on intelligence-led operations, recorded a major breakthrough with the arrest of three suspects identified as Chinedu David ‘m’, aged 29 years, Ezeagwu Chukwuma ‘m’, aged 38 years, and IfeanyiOgbeanyi ‘m’, aged 45 years. The operation further led to the recovery of one unregistered MAN diesel truck loaded with forty-seven (47) sacks containing military camouflage uniforms and eighty (80) cartons of drugs suspected to be illicit substances.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the recovered truck was allegedly being used to transport the military camouflage uniforms to the Eastern part of the country. Investigation is ongoing to determine the source, ownership, and intended recipients of the recovered items, as well as establish the extent of the suspects’ involvement and identify other persons connected with the criminal act.
9. ARREST OF SUSPECTS FOR CONSPIRACY, MANAGING UNLAWFUL SOCIETY, UNLAWFUL POSSESSION OF FIREARMS AND STEALING
Operatives of the command arrested Emmanuel Sailas‘m’, Oluwalekan Fagbule ‘m’, Nurudeen Ganiyu ‘m’, a… On June 12, 2026, operatives arrested Emmanuel Sailas ‘m’, Oluwalekan Fagbule ‘m’, Nurudeen Ganiyu‘m’, and Nurudeen Abdullahi ‘m’. Recovered exhibits include One English Beretta pistol loaded with ten live ammunition, One jack knife and One locally made cut-to-size pistol. Investigation revealed that the suspects are members of Eiye Confraternity.
10. ARREST OF SUSPECTS FOR CONSPIRACY AND ARMED ROBBERY
On June 22, 2026, three suspects were arrestedSulemon Azeez ‘m’, Yusuf Tijani ‘m’ and TimileyinOyetola ‘m’ in connection with an armed robbery case in which a victim sustained gunshot injuries. Further investigation led to the recovery of one locally made pistol and four cartridge used during the robbery operation.
11. RESCUE OF FOREIGN NATIONALS AND INVESTIGATION OF ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION ACTIVITIES
On June 17, 2026, operatives rescued thirty-eight foreign nationals from possible mob action in Epearea.The rescued individuals comprised Fourteen Chadians, Nine Burkinabes, Four Beninoise, Four Malians, Two Togolese, Two Cameroonians and One Ghanaian. Preliminary investigation revealed that twenty of the individuals entered Nigeria illegally, while eighteen possessed valid ECOWAS travel documents. The matter has been referred to relevant authorities, including embassies and the Nigerian Immigration Service.
12. ARREST OF SUSPECT FOR IMPERSONATION
Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command on routine patrol along Ikotun, arrested one Christopher Obinna ‘m’, aged 29 years, for impersonation. The suspect was intercepted while dressed in black combat attire bearing Nigeria Navy insignia, including a Nigeria Navy name tag and two Special Force badges, thereby presenting himself as a military personnel. During a search conducted on the suspect, operatives recovered one small knife, a Nigeria Navy identity card bearing another person’s photograph with a different name and one Kings Guard identity card bearing the suspect’s name and photograph. Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect was falsely representing himself as a member of the Nigeria Navy. During interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime. Investigation is ongoing while the suspect is on the threshold of prosecution.
13. ARREST OF SUSPECTS FOR CONSPIRACY,SUSPECTED CULTISM AND UNLAWFUL POSSESSION OF FIREARMS
Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command acting on a distress call relating to cult-related violence along the Igando area of Lagos State arrested one Solomon Ebe ‘m’, aged 34 years. The suspect was reportedly sighted among some miscreants shooting sporadically within the area while in possession of a pump action gun, swiftly mobilized to the scene and successfully arrested the suspect while recovering the firearm in his possession. During preliminary investigation, the suspect confessed to being a member of AloraConfraternity and further stated that the firearm was given by who is currently at large. However, the suspect could not provide satisfactory account of the lawful possession of the recovered firearm.
Investigation is ongoing to apprehend other suspect currently at large.
14. ARREST OF SUSPECT FOR IMPERSONATION AND WILFUL DAMAGE
Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command arrested one Ishaya Barnabas ‘m’, aged 26 years, following a complaint involving damage to a Black Toyota Corolla, 2015 model, During preliminary investigation, the suspect claimed to be a serving soldier attached to the 202 Battalion of the Nigerian Army, Borno State. Consequently, the suspect was handed over to military authorities on June 10, 2026, for proper verification and possible departmental action. Subsequent investigation conducted by the military authorities established that the suspect had been dismissed from the Nigerian Army on September 20, 2024, while serving at the 202 Battalion. The suspect is currently being processed for prosecution on charges bordering on impersonation and wilfuldamage.
