The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Fatai Tijani, on Day 4 of the 2026 National Police Week, hosted a broad spectrum of stakeholders in a strategic engagement aimed at strengthening community policing, building trust, and addressing key security concerns across the state.
The stakeholder engagement, which formed a major highlight of the ongoing Police Week activities, brought together royal fathers, community leaders, members of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), the National Youth Council, the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), and the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), among others.
The meeting also marked CP Fatai Tijani’s first formal engagement with critical stakeholders since assuming office last week, providing a platform for open dialogue, collaboration, and feedback on policing strategies in Lagos State.
Addressing participants, the Commissioner emphasized the importance of community partnership in effective policing, noting that security is a collective responsibility that requires cooperation between the police and the public.
He assured stakeholders of the Command’s readiness to listen, engage, and respond to their concerns, while reaffirming the commitment of the police to protecting lives and property across Lagos.
CP Tijani highlighted the significance of sustained stakeholder engagement, describing it as a vital tool for intelligence gathering, conflict resolution, and crime prevention. He encouraged participants to maintain close communication with law enforcement authorities and promptly report suspicious activities within their communities.
The engagement also provided an opportunity for stakeholders to raise concerns, including issues related to youth involvement in social vices such as cultism, drug abuse, and hooliganism. In response, the Commissioner pledged to work closely with youth groups and community leaders to tackle these challenges through proactive and inclusive strategies.
He further assured that Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) across key areas, including Bode Thomas, Area B, Badia, and Oto Awori, would be empowered to enhance grassroots policing and improve response to community-specific issues.
On operational conduct, CP Tijani acknowledged complaints regarding the behavior of some officers, particularly along Eric Moore Road, and promised that the Command’s monitoring unit would address such concerns to ensure professionalism and accountability.
The Commissioner also reiterated the Command’s commitment to resolving local disputes, including tensions between Oto Awori and Ijanikin communities, through dialogue and strategic planning.
He made clarification on certain structural matters, such as the commercialization of police barracks, which according to him is not under the jurisdiction of the Lagos State Command.
The event underscored the central theme of Police Week—community partnership and trust-building—while reinforcing the need for continuous collaboration between security agencies and the public.
CP Tijani concluded by assuring Lagos residents of the Command’s dedication to maintaining peace and security, calling for sustained support and cooperation from all stakeholders to keep the state safe.
