The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), Dr. Kayode Opeifa, has reiterated the Corporation’s zero tolerance for vandalism, while giving a stern warning to anyone that contravenes the law (with regard to the vandalization of railway infrastructure or dealing in stolen railway materials),  will face the full wrath of the law.

He gave this warning sequel to the arrest of a 32-year-old suspect-Mr. Bashiru Hafeez, on Thursday, March 26, 2026 by the security personnel of “The Multi Eye Security Services” attached to The Mobolaji Johnson Train Station (MJS), Ebute-Metta, while they were on a routine patrol.

Dr. Opeifa who described the vandalism  as an economic sabotage that is capable of endangering lives and undermining national infrastructure, saluted the courage of the security personnel for their vigilance and swift response.

He also assured the public that the corporation in collaboration with security agencies, will not rest on their oars in their efforts to identify, arrest, and prosecute all individuals and syndicates involved in the destruction and theft of railway assets; while  he called on members of the public to remain vigilant and must not hesitate to report any suspicious activities around railway corridors, as the railway remains a critical national asset that must be protected by all and sundry.

Meanwhile, the suspect-Bashiru Hafeez who was caught in possession of fifteen (15) pandrol clips (iron rail fasteners) believed to have been unlawfully removed from the narrow gauge corridor at Alagomeji, within the Lagos rail network, has been handed over to the Nigerian Railway Police Command for investigation and prosecution.

He was later arraigned before a competent court in Lagos, where he was remanded in custody at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre, pending further hearing.

The case has been adjourned to the 24th of April, 2026
