NDLEA, Customs Deepen Maritime Drug War Cooperation At Tincan Axis

The push to curb narcotics trafficking along Nigeria’s maritime corridor received renewed momentum as the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) reinforced operational ties at the Kirikiri Lighter Terminal (KLT) Command in Lagos.

During a strategic engagement held on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, the newly appointed NDLEA Commander of the Tincan Strategic Command, Commander Solomon Gbadebo Omotosho, led a delegation on a familiarization and partnership visit to the KLT Area Command.

The meeting underscored the shared responsibility of both agencies in safeguarding the nation’s ports—critical gateways often targeted by transnational drug trafficking networks.

Welcoming the NDLEA team, Acting Customs Area Controller, Deputy Comptroller Bolaji Lukman Adigun, stressed the importance of inter-agency collaboration in maintaining the integrity of port operations. He described the visit as a significant step toward reinforcing existing frameworks aimed at balancing strict enforcement with efficient trade facilitation.

Adigun highlighted intelligence sharing, joint cargo profiling, and coordinated inspections as essential tools in disrupting illicit drug flows, noting that no single agency can effectively tackle the complexity of modern trafficking networks alone.

In response, Commander Omotosho emphasized that his leadership would prioritize strong institutional partnerships, particularly with the Nigeria Customs Service, to deliver more impactful enforcement outcomes. He called for real-time communication, deeper intelligence collaboration, and unified operational strategies to dismantle organized drug syndicates exploiting maritime routes.

The engagement also featured a symbolic exchange of plaques, reflecting mutual respect and a firm commitment to sustained cooperation.

Both agencies concluded the meeting with a renewed pledge to strengthen coordination, enhance intelligence-driven operations, and maintain vigilance in protecting Nigeria’s maritime borders from criminal exploitation.
