MTN Nigeria surprised and delighted a newlywed couple at their wedding ceremony in Akowonjo, Lagos, by presenting them with a cash gift of N2 million.

This surprise is part of the telecommunications giant’s festive season campaign, aptly named ‘YelloTide Weddings’, aimed at spreading cheer and gratitude.

During the event, Clement Nwakwo, MTN’s manager of product marketing, disclosed that that the initiative is a way for the company to thank Nigerians across the country.

“This is a season where MTN is saying thank you to Nigerians irrespective of your network or ethnicity,” he said.

Nwakwo also revealed that MTN has been extending these festive surprises to various public spaces such as markets, malls, and even to random passersby in multiple cities.

The choice to focus on weddings, he noted, was deliberate and aligns with the company’s core mission.

The campaign, according to him, has already touched several regions, including Kano, Ogun, Abuja, and Calabar, with Ibadan also receiving a similar surprise on the same day.

One of the things that MTN respects is the institution of marriage, which is connections and what we do as MTN? We are connecting people, so it is sort of something we believe in and that is why we are here at Akowonjo surprising this couple,” he said.

“We have done that in Kano, Ogun, Abuja, Calabar, we are also doing that in Ibadan today. We are not stopping, it is going to run to the end of the year. We are going to keep surprising couples here in Nigeria.”

The initiative is expected to continue running till the end of the year.
