Thousands of vulnerable and low-income residents across Akwa Ibom State were filled with joy as the Aliko Dangote Foundation (ADF) commenced the distribution of 15,000 10kg bags of rice as part of its National Food Intervention Programme. The distribution, aimed at easing the economic burden on the most disadvantaged citizens, was flagged off at a well-attended ceremony that drew praise from state officials, local government leaders, and representatives of various community and interest groups.

Speaking on behalf of Governor Pastor Umo Eno, the State Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Princess Emem Ibanga, expressed the State Government’s deep appreciation to the Dangote Foundation for what she described as a timely and life-saving gesture.

“This donation could not have come at a better time,” she said. “Every bag of rice distributed is more than food—it is a message of hope and compassion to our people. The government cannot do it alone, and we are grateful for this impactful partnership.”The donation complements the Akwa Ibom State Government’s ongoing Bulk Purchase Food Intervention Programme, which has already benefited over 477,000 households across the 31 Local Government Areas.

Also speaking at the event, Mrs. Eno Obareki, Coordinator of the Office of the First Lady, commended the initiative as a major boost to the State’s food security and humanitarian response efforts.

Mr. Victor Ejiro, Head of Operations at the Aliko Dangote Foundation, reaffirmed the Foundation’s commitment to supporting the most vulnerable across Nigeria. He praised Governor Eno’s administration for its transparent and people-centered humanitarian programmes, noting that the Foundation was proud to collaborate with the state.

Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Mrs. Eno Akpan, conveyed the Ministry’s gratitude to the Foundation, stating that the food items would go a long way in providing much-needed relief to struggling families.

The Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) in Akwa Ibom, Dr. Uwemedimo Udo, who led local council chairmen to the event, assured that the rice would be distributed directly to the most vulnerable across all local government areas.

Also present at the event were representatives of special interest groups, including Comrade Ubong Ikpe, Personal Assistant to the Governor on Persons with Disabilities. He expressed heartfelt appreciation to both the State Government and the Dangote Foundation for prioritizing inclusive humanitarian support.

In Ikot Ekpene, the Local Government Chairman, Hon. Aniefiok Nkom, applauded the Foundation’s generosity and pledged that the distribution would be handled with transparency and integrity. “We are committed to ensuring that these food items reach those who need them the most. May God continue to bless and prosper Alhaji Aliko Dangote for his immense contributions to humanity,” he said.

He also commended residents of Ikot Ekpene for maintaining a peaceful and orderly distribution process. A representative of the Dangote Foundation present at the local distribution center echoed this sentiment, praising the strong coordination and adherence to distribution guidelines that ensured a smooth and effective exercise.

The distribution effort witnessed the participation of various government functionaries, community leaders, and a delegation from the Dangote Foundation, further reinforcing the spirit of partnership between corporate philanthropy and public service.
