It was a moment of joy for the Animashaun and Asekun Families when they gathered together on the 30th of September, 2025 at Our Saviour’s Church in Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos to celebrate the 90th birthday of Chief Mrs Edith Olusola Yetunde Edowaye Animashaun-The Yeyetuwase of Ife.
The Vicar & Archdeacon of Ikoyi, Ven. Folorunsho OreOluwa Agbelusi together with other members of the clergy- The Revd. Uchenna Nwanonyoba, The Revd. Akintunde Idowu and The Revd. Canon Asoliye Douglas-West who are all under The Diocesan Bishop of Lagos- The Rt. Revd. Ifedola Senasu Gabriel Okupevi officiated in the order of holy communion and thanksgiving service held in her honour.
The church was filled to capacity as family members, friends, colleagues and well wishers were on ground to witness the occasion.
The celebration took another dimension, when guests of the celebrant were later hosted at a reception held in her honour at The Landmark Event Centre, Oniru-Lagos.
There was so much fun to see at the event with different types of music players, food, drinks and lots of gifts for everyone.
People who have benefited from Mama’s goodwill and adopted as her children were around to celebrate with her, they testified to the glory of God about her kindness to others.
Roll call of people at the birthday anniversary party included: Chief Mrs Edith Olusola Yetunde Edowaye Animashaun ( the chief celebrant), Dupe Asekun ( celebrant’s younger brother), Simi Asekun (the celebrant’s family member), Alhaja Mrs Raimat Adesina, Dayo Adeagbo, Enitan Akerele, Yeye Oloori Ladun Sijuade, Architect Deji Adebiyi, Yemi Adebiyi,
Gen. (Rtd.) Tajudeen Olanrewaju, Jare Alade, Yode
Delano, Funlola Delano, Francesco Bertuna, Tokunbo Adeagbo , Akin Adeagbo and Alhaja Biola Fuja.
Others were: Lagos White Cap Chief, Ore Williams, Akiolu Fadeke, Ego Boyo, Honourable Funmilayo Tejuosho, Toyin Matthew, Dr. Adebimpe Adebajo and Onasanya Tessy among others.
Mama’s Children and grandchildren were all on ground to felicitate with the woman who has a heart of gold. Some of the children included: Oluwatomisin Animashaun, Kayode Animashaun Jnr. Olufunmilola Animashaun, Yewande Bertuna, Abayomi Animashaun, Frances Animashaun with over ten grandchildren.
Recall that Chief Mrs Edith Olusola Yetunde Edowaye Animashaun who was born on the 30th Day of September, 1935 to The Late Revd. Canon Daniel Kehinde and Mrs Bernice Adebimpe Asekun, studied nursing in England and got married to her heartthrob Chief Gaffar Kayode Animashaun of blessed memory in September 1961, with whom they had five beautiful children and numerous other adopted children.
