Family members, friends, colleagues and well wishers gathered at St. Dominic’s Catholic Church, Yaba, Lagos, on Monday 27th of July, 2026 for the twenty (20) years remembrance Mass for the late Engineer Funsho Williams.
In his homily, The officiating priest, Reverend Father Dominic Mbom, beckoned on the congregation to live a righteous life irrespective of status they find themselves in life.
According to him: “Every great man has a small beginning. It is through following God’s principles that one can transform to a great man,” Father Mbom said.
Also, a chieftain of The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Chief George while speaking before the congregation described the deceased as an epitome of civility and an icon.
Chief George who is also The Atona Oodua of Yoruba land, further said that the deceased was as a humanist and a gentle man. “We lost a gem. Twenty years is a long time but it looks like yesterday. The pain of his loss is still there”, he said.
“He was my junior at the university. Funsho was an epitome of civility and icon. He was an humanist and a gentle man”, he added.
Also a politician, Dr Funsho Doherty, described late Funsho Williams as a man with a shiny humility worthy of emulation.
“Late Engineer Funsho Williams was a man with a shining legacy across the state and the nation. He was a man we all looked forward to. He was someone we tried to emulate,” he said.
Lagos State Chairman of the party, Barr. Dr. Amos Fawole, in his remarks described the late Williams as a truly distinguished gentleman, an accomplished engineer and a true Omoluabi of Lagos.
He urged Lagosians and Nigerians to keep alive the noble values that defined Engr. Funsho Williams’ life via-a-vis integrity, compassion, sacrifice, excellence and an unyielding commitment to the common good.
Some of the dignitaries at the “Memorial Mass” were: “The Deputy National Chairman of The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)- Chief Olabode George; former Lagos State Deputy Governor – Senator Koforola Akerele-Bucknor, leadership of the party in the state, friends and associates of the deceased.
The late Funsho Williams, who died on the 27th of July, 2006 was the governorship candidate of the PDP in the 2003 election.
