Family, friends, colleagues and business partners on Thursday 20th and Friday 21st of November 2025 gathered to pay their last respects to the late Olorogun Dr. Oscar C J Eyovbirere Ibru (JP), in a Service of Songs held at The Harbour Point Event Centre, Victoria Island, while the Thanksgiving Service was held at The All Saints Anglican Church, Montgomery Road Yaba; all in Lagos State.
The Archdeacon of Marine Beach Archdeaconry- Venerable Paul Ogedegbe and Vicar of St. Andrew’s Church, Apapa G.R.A – The Venerable Raphael Olapomoye all in The Anglican Communion, led the team of priests who officiated at the service of songs that attracted the high and mighty in the society, both far and near.
The officiating priests while praying for the wife, children, grandchildren and extended families prayed for God’s Mercy on the deceased.
They also prayed for the nation, and good funeral arrangements for the late OCJI as he was fondly called.
There was also a moment of exhortation and benediction for the repose of the soul of Olorogun Oscar Ibru.
During the night of tribute, The family members, Igbobi Old Boys Association, Otunba Dr. Adekunle and the company of Otunbas from Ijebu, Miss Christine White, Mr. Amagbe Kentebe, Pastors Paul Adefarasin and Itua Ighodalo all gave beautiful testimonies of how the late businessman touched their lives in an impactful way.
Pastor Itua Ighodalo who specifically penned a great tribute to the late businessman believed that he is already in heaven because, he gave his heart to Christ just before heaven gained him.
Similarly, Pastor Paul Adefarasin went down memory lane to remember the good times he had with him at Igbobi College.
According to him, though OCJI was ahead of him at school, they both had a great time together, as he prayed for the repose of his soul.
Also, The Chairman of Ibeto Group and Ibeto Petrochemical Industries -Chief Dr. Cletus M Ibeto gave an exceptional tribute to the late OCJI, on behalf of Committee of Directors (COD-a body of Independent Petrochemical Storage Owners, made up of managing directors and chief executives within and around The Ibru Port Complex).
He began by saying that OCJI as they fondly called him was a man of many great parts, a gentle giant; whose influence was felt across the leadership and social spheres.
He said that the late Oscar Ibru never for once mistreat him as his landlord at The Ibru Port Complex in Ibafon in Lagos.
He revealed that when his rent payment was delayed, Oscar handled it with characteristic grace and patience, while recalling that the deceased’s blend of firmness and fairness was a signature trait admired by all.
He extended the glowing tribute to his late friend by saying that he admired him for his charm which he effortlessly carried at social gatherings that added colour to them.
Chief Ibeto concluded by saying that the good nature of OCJI was unique and unparalleled to none- from his elegant attires to the warm and witty conversations. He said: “Though, Oscar is dead, his legacies live on because he was intentional about raising the next generation “.
Also, MUSON Men’s Opera, The Nigerian flautist, with a cross-cultural Itsekiri and Swiss roots-Tee Mac Omatshola Iseli (MFR), Miss Elvina Ibru, Mr. Ayo Bankole and Mr. Ralph Okoro gave special numbers to honour the late Ibru.
While his son- Mr. Christopher Eruba Ibru gave the vote of thanks for the support and encouragement that he received from people around him.
At the thanksgiving service held at The All Saints Anglican Church Diocese of Lagos Mainland, where The Rt. Revd. Bishop Babatunde C. Akinpelu Johnson (M. Phil., AKC, FKC) presided over along with The Vicar & Archdeacon of Yaba-Ven. Jimi Ebiesuwa and four parish priests-Revd. Tunde Ogungbe, Revd. Canon Sebastian Ejiofor, Revd. Canon Emmanuel Chibueze and Ven. Omotayo Akinboboye, with different caliber of people from all walks life in attendance; to celebrate the legacy of the late Olorogun Dr. Oscar CJ Eyovbirere Ibru.
During the ministry of word, the epistle was taken from the book of Revelation 7:9-17 and it bordered on God’s Teachings about the judgment day and how we all will appear before the throne of the Lamb.
In the same vein, The Gospel of John 5:24-29 that was read bordered on Christians’ belief in God’s words and this dovetailed into the sermon – A Christian, who follows Christ’s teachings and believe in them, even in death; reigns with Him.
They all eulogized the great attributes of the late businessman.

Recall that the late Olorogun Dr. Oscar CJ Ibru who was born on the 11th of August 1958 and died on the 24th of September, 2025 was The Ochuko R’Ovie of Agbarha -Otor Kingdom, Odomese of Olomu Kingdom, Ochuko R’Ovie of Ogor Kingdom, Onekirode of Effurun-Otor Kingdom and Otunba Boyejo of Ijebu Land ( the first non-indigene of Ijebu to receive the title), before his demise and would be buried in his hometown in Delta State- Nigeria.
