PFA Player Award: Mohammed Salah Wins
Share ShareSend

LIVERPOOL, England — Mohamed Salah has etched his name in football history, becoming the first player to win the PFA Player of the Year award three times, as announced on Tuesday, August 19, 2025. The Egyptian star’s stellar performance last season, leading Liverpool to the Premier League title, secured him the prestigious accolade.
Salah outshone competitors including Bruno Fernandes, Alexander Isak, Cole Palmer, Declan Rice, and Liverpool teammate Alexis Mac Allister. This victory marks his second PFA award of the decade and ends a two-year streak of Manchester City players—Phil Foden and Erling Haaland—claiming the honor.

Last season, Salah dominated the Premier League, topping the charts with 29 goals and 18 assists. His contributions were pivotal in Liverpool’s championship run, though the team fell short in the Champions League and finished as runners-up in the Carabao Cup. While these setbacks may dim his Ballon d’Or prospects, the PFA award celebrates his exceptional impact.

Salah’s third PFA triumph sets him apart from two-time winners like Kevin De Bruyne (2019–2021), Cristiano Ronaldo (2006–2008), Thierry Henry, Mark Hughes, and Gareth Bale. His previous wins came in 2017–18 and 2021–22, but this marks the first time his PFA honor coincides with a Premier League title for Liverpool.

Since the 2012–13 season, Liverpool players have claimed the award five times, surpassing Manchester City’s four wins in the same period. Since its inception in 1974, the PFA Player of the Year award has gone to Liverpool players 10 times, underscoring the club’s enduring legacy.
