Lagos State Industrial Leather Hub: First Lady of Nigeria Commissions Hub

The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu has commissioned the historic Lagos State Industrial Leather Hub in Mushin Local Government Area, on the 23rd of August 2025, which was named after her.

Senator Oluremi Tinubu who lauded the project, described it as a great milestone for Nigeria as the hub has become a reference point in local manufacturing, industrialization and creative arts.

According to her, the hub would give room for specialized training that would help artisans enhance their skills, promote continuous learning as well as accelerate their path to greatness.

In his remarks, Mr. Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu explained that the hub is the largest of its kind in West Africa, having been designed to accommodate 30, 0000 artisans and more than 10,000 traders.

Sanwo-Olu said further that this great feat achieved by the state government would open the window for massive employment opportunities within the leather industry, while unlocking the potential of Lagosians, as he renamed the hub to “Senator Oluremi Tinubu Industrial Leather Hub”.

This according to him is in recognition of The First Lady’s commitment to grassroots development and industrial growth.

The Commissioner for Wealth Creation and Employment-Honourable Akinyemi Bankole Ajigbotafe, while speaking with Khal-El Media expressed hope that the new hub would bring the expected turnaround in the lives of the young people in Lagos State, since it would go a long way to empowering them.

In the same vein, The Executive Chairman of Mushin Local Government, Honourable Tunbosun Haruna Aruwe, while fielding questions from the media, commended the First Lady for her steadfast support for community development and for honouring Mushin with her historic commissioning of the factory.

The Honourable who appreciated the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, for situating the project in Mushin, described the hub as a game-changer that would accelerate economic growth, youth empowerment, and skill acquisition in the locality.

In his words, “The Lagos State Leather Hub will not only consolidate Mushin’s reputation as a centre of commerce and creativity but also create new opportunities for our artisans, traders, and young people. On behalf of the good people of Mushin, I sincerely thank Her Excellency, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, and Mr. Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, for bringing this vision to life”, he stated.

The MD/ CEO of Kharis Engineering- Engineer Bolaji Adebajo, the hub has the capacity to produce three thousand shoes daily, thereby  reducing the importation of leathers, shoes and belts and bringing about increase in the country’s foreign exchange reserves.

Some of the dignitaries in attendance included: Her Excellency, Mrs. Nana Shettima – Wife of the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, The Deputy Governor of Lagos State- Dr. Kadiri Obafemi Hamzat, Dr. Idiat Oluranti Adebule – Senator representing Lagos West Senatorial District, Honourable Wasiu Eshilokun-Senator, Lagos Central Senatorial District, Speaker of The Lagos State House of Assembly-Rt. Honourable Mudashiru Obasa, Senator Ganiu Olanrewaju Solomon –Member GAC and the Apex Leader of The All Progressives Congress in Mushin Local Government and Odi-Olowo / Ojuwoye Local Council Development Area and Honourable Emmanuel Bamigboye- Former Executive Chairman of Mushin Local Government,.

Others were: Honourable Akinyemi Bankole Ajigbotafe – Lagos State Commissioner for Wealth Creation and Employment, ESV Olayinka Adebayo Wasiu – Permanent Secretary-Ministry of Wealth Creation and Employment, Lagos State; Honourable Bolaji Yusuf Ayinla-Former Member, Federal House of Representatives, Mushin 2, Honourable Yemi Alli – Member, Federal House of Representatives, Mushin 1, Honourable Toyin Fayinka –Member , Federal House of Representatives, Mushin 2, Honourable Nureni Akinsanya –Member, Lagos State House of Assembly, Mushin 1, Honourable Yinka Esho-Kazeem-Member, Lagos State House of Assembly, Mushin 2, Honourable Iyabode Ayoola – Special Adviser to Mr. Governor on Internal Audit, Honourable Seyi Jakande, Executive Chairman, Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye Local Council Development Area, HRH Alayeluwa Oba Fatai Aileru,JP., Olu of Mushin, HRH Alayeluwa Oba Sikirullahi Olamide Williams, Oba of Odi-Olowo /Ojuwoye Mushin, HRH Alayeluwa Oba Tajudeen Odubiyi, Oba of ltire Land, Monday Lawrence- Eze Ndigbo Mushin and Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye, Honourable Rafiu Shitta-Bey – APC Party Chairman, Mushin Local Government,, Alhaja Muinat Mustapha – APC Woman Leader, Mushin Local Government and other distinguished dignitaries, top government  officials from the federal, state and local governments, APC Chieftains, community leaders as well as stakeholders in the leather value chain, who described the hub as a great step towards industrial development.
