The management and staff of ARISE News Channel are mourning the tragic death of their colleague, Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu, fondly known as Sommie.
Sommie, a News Anchor, Reporter, and Producer, was killed in the early hours of Monday, September 29, 2025, following an armed robbery attack at her residence in Katampe, Abuja.
The incident is currently under investigation by the Nigeria Police.
In an online statement by the company, signed by Hadiza Usman-Ajayi by for the Management said “Born on December 26, 1995, Sommie was just 29 years old.
“She was widely admired not only for her professionalism on air but also for her warmth, intelligence, and commitment to impactful journalism.”
The organisation also described her as “a vibrant voice that engaged and connected deeply with our viewers. Beyond the airwaves, Sommie was a lawyer, a professional, a supportive colleague, and a dear friend to many.”
The channel extended condolences to her family, loved ones, and colleagues, noting that “Sommie’s voice is now silent, but her spirit, passion, and legacy will endure as part of our collective memory.”
ARISE News further called for a thorough investigation and the swift apprehension and prosecution of those responsible for the crime.
