In a week that has catapulted him into the spotlight, Nigerian striker Akor Adams capped a memorable few days by scoring the final goal in Sevilla’s stunning 4-1 humiliation of Barcelona in the Spanish La Liga on Sunday.

The 25-year-old, who received his maiden call-up to the Super Eagles just days prior, entered the match as a second-half substitute and made an immediate impact.

With the game deep into injury time, Adams completed a lightning-fast counter-attack, confidently stroking the ball into the net after a precise pass from fellow Nigerian international Chidera Ejuke. The goal sealed a well-deserved and emphatic victory for the hosts.

Sevilla had set the tone early, building a 2-1 lead by halftime with goals from Alexis Sánchez (penalty) and Isaac Romero, only slightly dampened by a Marcus Rashford volley just before the break.

Barcelona applied intense pressure in the second half, but Sevilla’s defense held firm, and their resolve was further strengthened when Robert Lewandowski missed a penalty for the visitors.

The match was ultimately put to bed in the 90th minute when José Ángel Carmona struck to make it 3-1, before Adams applied the finishing touch to complete the rout and confirm Barcelona’s first defeat of the season.

The goal marks Adams’ second in consecutive matches — his first such feat since joining Sevilla in January — and perfectly concludes a breakthrough week that also saw him score his first-ever La Liga goal and earn his first national team call-up for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

The victory propelled Sevilla to fourth in the league table, while Barcelona, suffering a significant blow, remain in second place, two points behind rivals Real Madrid.
