The Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, on Wednesday swore in 14 new judges of the Federal High Court, charging them to uphold integrity, discipline and clarity in the discharge of their constitutional duties.

The appointments followed recommendations by the National Judicial Council after its 110th meeting held on January 13 and 14, 2026.

The NJC subsequently forwarded the names to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for appointment.

Addressing the newly appointed judges, the CJN described their emergence as the outcome of one of the most rigorous, transparent and technology-enhanced judicial selection processes in the nation’s history.

She urged them to remain steadfast in their responsibilities and avoid distractions.

Among the newly sworn-in judges is Suleiman Hassan, who until his appointment served as Chief Registrar of the Federal High Court.

Also sworn in was Onuegbu Chioma, Director of Legal Services at the Federal Ministry of Justice.

The NJC’s Deputy Director of Information, Kemi Babalola-Ogedengbe, had earlier disclosed in a statement that the recommendation of the 14 judges was made during the council’s 110th meeting presided over by the CJN.

The inauguration of the judges is expected to strengthen the capacity of the Federal High Court in handling the growing volume of cases across its divisions nationwide.
