Highlighting the urgency of investing in education, Shettima said, “Now is the time to recommit to building a future in which every Nigerian child has a fair shot at becoming the best version of themselves.”

He urged corporate Nigeria to see itself as a key stakeholder in reversing West Africa’s low Human Capital Index, warning, “A youthful population is a global asset only when it is educated. Without education, it becomes a threat.”

Aliko Dangote leading philanthropist and businessman, unveiled the initiative, emphasizing transparency and merit-based selection for scholarship beneficiaries. He also pledged 25 percent of his personal wealth to support the foundation’s sustained impact, extending beyond his lifetime.

The Ministry of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, praised the initiative as “one of the most comprehensive human capital development programmes in Nigeria’s history,” noting its inclusive approach by reserving 25% of scholarships for persons living with disabilities.

United Nations Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed lauded the foundation’s focus on Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and girls’ education as a critical driver for societal progress.

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Ooni of Ife, and other dignitaries also commended the initiative, with the Emir of Lafia pledging rigorous oversight to ensure success.

Shettima further highlighted government reforms supporting education including the Nigerian Education Loan Fund and increased digital learning, saying, “We are bringing states, development partners, the private sector and civil society together to reclaim our destiny.”
