PRESS BRIEFING BY THE COMMISSIONER OF POLICE, LAGOS STATE COMMAND, CP TIJANI FATAI

This is sequel to the encounter that six police officers from Elemoro Division had with irate mob, while on their routine patrol in the early hours of Thursday, 29 August 2025.

In the course of ensuring their own safety, the officers had to use  firearms that resulted in three individuals sustaining injuries.  However, the injured persons have been taken to the hospital for medical attention.

The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Olohundare Jimoh, promptly responded to the incident by personally leading a detachment of officers to the scene. The swift intervention led to the removal of all barricades, restoring the free flow of traffic in the affected area.

CP Jimoh also moved deep into the community and engaged with youth and community leaders in the neighborhood to de-escalate tensions and foster understanding.

He has further extended an invitation to these leaders for continual dialogue to address concerns and prevent future occurrences.

According to a release from the command headquarters, the officers involved in the shooting have been taken into custody while investigations into the incident have commenced.

The Lagos State Police Command has assured residents of its commitment to establishing a thorough and transparent inquiry, in order to get the facts surrounding the event.

In the meantime, calmness has been restored in the area, and significant police presence according to them, will be in place to ensure that the peace and order restored there, is sustained.

The Command urges residents to remain calm, cooperate with the law enforcement agencies and refrain from actions that could disrupt public safety.

The command has promised to provide further updates as the investigations unfold.
