The leadership of the Organised Labour Unions in Taraba State has declared a state-wide strike action slated for Monday, August 11.

The unions under the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), directed all their members to ensure they join the industrial action on the said date.

According to the organised Labour, the decision to declare the strike action stems from a resolution reached at a meeting of the Joint State Administrative Council on August 6.

In a statement issued by NLC Chairman Peter Jediel and TUC Chairman, Sule Abasu, the directive follows the reports of alleged irregularities by the state’s Biometric Data Capture Committee.

The statement said these irregularities have adversely affected workers.

The unions also accused the committee of participating in illegal practices which the state government has failed to address over time.

“Following the mandate of the joint state administrative council meeting of the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress that the leadership should take all necessary action to effectuate the ultimatum in collaboration with other stakeholders to check the illegality perpetrated by the biometric data capture committee.”

The organised Labour met on 6th August 2025 and resolved as follows; Strike is hereby declared to commence from the early hours of Monday, 11th August 2025, mobilisation commences summed and all workers, civil society organisations, and the masses are hereby put on notice to stock their houses for all necessary provisions.

The union leaders also urged all units and affiliates of the NLC and TUC to form a strike implementation committee to ensure efficiency and effectiveness in their various ministries, departments and agencies.
