The Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu has commissioned 2 Schools, Fire Station, Emergency Response Unit, Legislative Chamber, 21 Network of Roads, The Wale Awokoya Primary Healthcare Center along with four others in Bariga Local Council Development Area on the 25th of July, 2025 as Honourable David Kolade Alabi marked his last day in office.
Sanwo-Olu while commissioning the legacy projects commended the outgoing council chairman for his delivery of the dividend of democracy to residents in the area.
According to him; “My administration is ready to support council chairmen who are working hard to bring meaningful progress to the people at the grassroots level”, he said.
Sanwo-Olu said that, “ since local governments in Nigeria have been granted full autonomy, with their allocations both from the Federal and States giving to them with no interference from any where, the 57 local governments and local council development areas in Lagos have no excuse not to perform very well”, he added.
He continued by saying, “as we are commissioning these initiatives, let the achievements resound across the state, as we build a Lagos that delivers and a Lagos that works for its people”, he said.
While lauding the legacy projects of Honourable Alabi, he urged the incoming administration of Honourable Bukola Omope Adedeji (Iya ni Wura), to continue from where her predecessor stopped by surpassing it.
The Governor also urged the residents to take charge of the public property bequeathed into their care, with the promise that The Lagos State Government will continue to invest in them always.
In the same vein, Honourable David Kolade Alabi remarked that the legacy projects carried out by his administration were done, in order to improve the lives of the people at the grassroots level, while remaining some streets after notable individuals who have made significant contributions in the area.
In his words, “As an administration, we took our time to reflect on a number of people who have put the name of our local council on the global map through their respective God-given talents and crafts, as well as eminent personalities in our nation, beloved state and council who have contributed immensely to the development of the nation and the state. Today, we will be officially renaming streets in honour of their legacies”, ……Alabi, outgoing Chairman of Conference 57, umbrella organisation for council Chairmen in the state.
He said, “the popular Ilajẹ Road will now be known as King Sunny Ade Road; Bariga Road has been renamed Bola Ahmed Tinubu Way; Community Road in Akoka is now Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu Road; Ajidagan Street is now to be called Olamide Adedeji (Baddo) Street; Charly Boy Bus Stop has been renamed as Baddo Bus Stop; Ifeanyi Street is now to be called Abolore Akande (9ice) Street; Ayodele Street, Ladi-Lak has been renamed Tony Tetuila Street; and Ilojo Crescent in Obanikoro is now to be known as Bukayo Saka Street”, he said.
Also, The President of The Association of Local Governments of Nigeria ( ALGON), Honourable Bello Masha from Kebbi State, who spoke with Khal-El Media praised the outgoing chairman for his landmark achievements and leadership style. He enjoyed all local government chairmen to emulate his leadership style in other to bring significant changes to the people at the grassroots.
Similarly, Senator Anthony Adefuye (APC Party Chieftain), who spoke at the event, reiterated that good governance begins at the grassroots.
According to him, Bariga will now be known as “Bariga Land”.
Some Lagos State Government Functionaries that accompanied Mr Governor to do commissioning included: PS, Office of Local Government Establishment and Training -Mrs Bibilomo Olayide Olushekun, PS, Lagos State Primary Health Care Board -Dr. Ibrahim Akinwunmi Mustapha.
Other people at the event included: Deputy Chief of Staff to ALGON President, Honourable Sheu Masha from Katsina State, Managing Director/ Chief Executive Officer of SAMCO City Works Nigeria Limited -Engineer Yasser Mohammed and other ALGON Executives
