The Executive Chairman of Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye-Honourable Seyi Jakande has given a scorecard of his 100 days in office to the public, after The Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu inaugurated him as the Chairman of the Local Council Development Area on the 27th of July, 2025.
In an exclusive interview with Khal-El Media, Honourable Seyi Jakande revealed that his administration which lays emphasis on prioritizing the needs, feelings, and voices of people in processes, policies, and strategies; is people centric.
According to him, upon the assumption of office on the 28th of July, “I activated “The HEWA Agenda”, to impact positively on the residents.
He said, “HEWA” which stands for Health and Environment, Education and Empowerment, Works and Infrastructure, Agriculture and Tourism is the summary of the impactful service delivery my office gave to the people at the grassroots.
The Executive Chairman revealed that his first priority was to address the urgent security concerns at Ogunmokun Bridge which was reportedly considered unsafe at night, with residents highlighting the presence of miscreants and a high incidence of robberies.
Honourable Jakande further noted that to solve the problem, a joint task team comprising The Police, Lagos State Neighbourhood Corps, Marshals of Odi-Olowo Transportation and Environmental Corps, Hunters and Vigilante Groups were mobilized to mitigate the threat posed by the undesirable elements in the area.
He added that a solar power system to light up Ogunmokun Bridge which was hitherto covered in darkness as well as the provision of CCTV Cameras for a twenty four hours surveillance were put in place, to assist the team in their work.
“Still on infrastructural development, my administration has constructed and commissioned Adegboyega and Adelakun Roads, while the rehabilitation of Adewusi, Irawo, Igbarere, Adedoja, Muyibi, Akala Streets as well as Damingo Road by the railway line are still ongoing”, Jakande said.
The Honourable went further to explain that The Health Sector received a significant boost in the last one hundred days.
He said, “Although the construction of a Primary Healthcare Centre at Kayode Street is still ongoing, brand new ambulances have been procured for all the Primary Healthcare Centres in the locality and we are working towards integrating them all to the Electronic Medical Record ( EMR), while upgrading the energy supply to twenty four hours”.
“In order to clear pooling water, slow draining, gurgling sounds, and bad odors from the drainages in the area, my administration desilted the drainages. This has helped to prevent blockages, flooding and Improved their efficiency, especially at Cairo, Alli, Agro Fair, Shodey and Olateju areas”, he added.
According to him, “My administration also delved into the areas of education by launching a comprehensive back to school programme tagged: “Back to School, Back to the Pocket “ which was commissioned before the school resumption. This was done to ensure that the pupils’ needs were adequately addressed, so as to prevent the parents from making unnecessary expenditure”, he said.
“In order to strengthen the distribution of the school materials to the pupils in the twenty seven primary schools, in addition to the one inclusive primary school in Odi-Olowo/ Ojuwoye, I constituted a committee to handle this development. I also ensured that I sustained the provision of means of transportation for the pupils to and from school started by his predecessor, to help reduce the burden of transportation fare, on their parents.
The Chairman also revealed that “The Jako Jollof Programme was instituted and more than five thousand pupils were fed through the programme, he said.
Honourable Jakande who is called “Jako” by his fans also revealed that the youth were not left behind in the success story as more than six hundred participants who were captured for the ICT Summer Tech have been trained in various ICT courses.
“In the same vein, more than two hundred and fifty indigents were supported with their GCE registration and those who qualified for the registration, got their own on merit through the mock exam process which was conducted for them”, he explained.
Still on youth empowerment, Jakande stated that his administration in the last one hundred days distributed solar charging system batteries to the youth across the wards in the local council development area, in order to make them kiosk managers, giving them employment opportunities that enabled them utilize their time positively as change agents.
On Sports: The chairman said that his administration engaged the youth in several sporting events during the period under review. Namely: Chairman’s Cup, Female Championship Cup for the Ikeja League Sports Festival among others.
He added that he also sponsored “The Isese Day”, in order to encourage traditional beliefs.
When asked if he could replicate or surpass the feat his father achieved in Lagos State as the executive governor, he replied by stating that although his father’s leadership style was a different scope and dimension, he said he hopes to apply the same principle at the grassroots; by ensuring that all the programmes, policies and projects that he would implement are sustainable and people-centric.
On the overall, Honourable Seyi Jakande explained that in the last one hundred days, his office has made giant strides to improve the lives of the people- from education to healthcare, to works and infrastructure, agriculture and tourism among others.
According to him, “My office has been intentional about providing people oriented programmes to make life easier for the residents”, he concluded.
